Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel had to end the second day of testing in Spain prematurely. Problems with the hybrid system from partner Renault slowed the four-time champion in his Red Bull. The German only managed eight laps in Jerez on Wednesday before smoke came out of the garage again, as on Tuesday.

Sebastian Vettel can only dream of almost 200 laps as he did a year ago when he started his new title mission. The four-time Formula 1 world champion also experienced a disaster on Wednesday during the test drives in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Only eight laps lit up on the monitor for the Red Bull driver.

Two and a half hours before the end of the second day of testing, it was clear: Vettel is no longer driving. The German had already swapped his racing overalls for civilian clothes during his lunch break. The balance after more waiting than driving: eleven laps, 48.708 kilometers – two days to forget for the 26-year-old.

Vettel no longer starts in Jerez

When he parked his new RB10 in the box on Wednesday, smoke was already rising from the bolide. He was already on fire the day before – after just three laps. Problems with the hybrid system from partner Renault then stopped Vettel on Wednesday. On Tuesday he had to wait almost eight hours for his brief assignment due to an incorrectly installed spring.
